IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has been summoned to appear before the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) Committee of Officers on December 12, 2025, as the aviation regulator investigates the severe nationwide flight disruptions that have impacted lakhs of passengers. India's largest airline is currently under scrutiny after an operational breakdown triggered widespread cancellations and delays across major airports.

Over 4,500 Flights Cancelled Amid Operational Crisis

IndiGo faced one of its biggest operational challenges last week, resulting in nearly 4,500 flight cancellations. Major airports including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai experienced heavy congestion, long queues, and significant inconvenience for travellers. Despite efforts to stabilise operations, disruptions are still ongoing.

At Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, over 60 flights were cancelled today (December 11) alone, while 220 flights were cancelled yesterday, worsening passenger frustrations.

Financial Impact and Revised Growth Forecast

The large-scale disruptions have also affected IndiGo's financial outlook. InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the airline's parent company, has revised its Q3 guidance due to the crisis. IndiGo now expects:

  • ASK (Available Seat Kilometre) growth to rise only in high single to low double digits, down from earlier "high teens" projections.
  • PRASK (Passenger Revenue per Available Seat Kilometre) to decline in mid-single digits.

The stock market reacted sharply. InterGlobe Aviation shares dropped 3% on December 11, pushing the stock down 20% over the past month, reflecting investor concerns.

Operations Improving, But Not Fully Restored

While the airline is gradually recovering, flight operations are still below normal levels. IndiGo plans to operate over 1,950 flights today, showing improvement but still trailing behind its pre-crisis capacity.

What's Next for IndiGo?

As the DGCA inquiry proceeds, the focus remains on IndiGo's contingency planning, workforce management, and operational resilience. The outcome of the CEO's appearance before the committee will likely determine further regulatory actions and shape the airline's recovery strategy.
